The fee math changes everything
These annual fees look scary until you count credits. Venture X gives back $300 in travel + $100 in anniversary miles = $400. CSR gives back $300 travel + $300 restaurant + $300 StubHub = $900 (though the StubHub credit is only useful if you buy tickets). Amex Platinum: $200 hotel + $200 airline + $200 Uber + $400 Resy dining + $189 CLEAR + $100 Saks = $1,289 (again, only if you use every single one).
The gap between fee and "effective fee after credits" is where these cards live or die. Amex Platinum is almost free if you use everything. It's $895 out of pocket if you don't.

What each card is really best at
- Venture X: simplest earn (2x everywhere), lowest fee, cleanest travel credit. The "set it and forget it" premium card.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve: highest earn on dining (3x) and hotels (4x) among the three. Hyatt transfer partner is the star (often 3+¢/point). Best travel insurance in the category.
- Amex Platinum: 5x on flights booked direct or through Amex Travel (huge for business travelers). Best lounges. Worst rewards for anything that isn't flights.
