What most reviews get wrong

Venture X is often pitched as "basically free" because of the $300 travel credit and 10,000 anniversary miles. That's true only if you'd actually book travel through Capital One and can use the miles. If not, the effective fee is closer to the full $395.

CSP looks less flashy but its 3x on dining, groceries, gas, and streaming compounds meaningfully once you spend $30k+ a year across those categories. The 100k sign-up bonus is currently the highest CSP has offered.

The perks Venture X has, CSP doesn't

This is where the $300 gap in annual fees goes. Whether it's worth it depends on how much of the below you'd actually use.

  • $300 annual travel credit (usable on Capital One Travel bookings)
  • 10,000 anniversary miles per year (roughly $100 to $175 depending on redemption)
  • Capital One Lounge access at CLT, DFW, DEN, LGA, IAD (plus Priority Pass)
  • Global Entry / TSA PreCheck credit
  • Hertz President's Circle status
  • No foreign transaction fees (CSP also has none)
